Elevation

ControlWhat it does
Fill missing elevationLooks up the elevation of every point that has none, from terrain data. Elevations that came with the file are kept.
Replace all from terrainReplaces every elevation with terrain data. Use it when a recording's elevation is poor, such as a watch without a barometer. It asks first.
SmoothingEvens out small ups and downs in the elevation (0–100 m) before the profile is drawn and the gain is worked out. Higher is smoother.
Gain thresholdHow far (0–10 m) the course has to climb before it counts towards the elevation gain, so GPS noise on flat ground is not counted as climbing.

Terrain data is looked up for the whole course, not just the part on screen. The two sliders change the profile and the figures on the Info tab together.

Course

ControlWhat it does
Reverse directionMakes the finish the start and the start the finish. Timing points keep their places on the ground and their distances are worked out again.
SimplifyRemoves points that make no real difference to the shape — any the line would stay within the given number of metres of without them. Tells you how many were removed. Worth doing on a large recorded course (the tool suggests it above 5,000 points): everything gets faster.
